Most GoHighLevel reviews are written by people who signed up, clicked around for an afternoon, and published. You can tell, because they list features and never mention a single thing that went wrong.
We run GoHighLevel daily, for our own business and for clients, including a contractor whose phone line and estimate pipeline both live on it. So this review has a section that most do not, the parts that will genuinely irritate you.
Then the honest verdict on who should still buy it, because we do recommend it.
What it actually is
GoHighLevel replaces a stack. CRM, email, SMS, phone system, calendars, funnels and landing pages, forms, pipelines, review requests, and the automation layer that ties them together.
That is the pitch, and it is real. If you currently pay for a CRM, an email tool, a scheduler, a funnel builder, and a phone number, and you spend your week copying data between them, that is the problem this solves.
Plans start at $97 a month. The full pricing breakdown is here, including two costs that are not on their pricing page.
What it does genuinely well
The consolidation is real, not marketing. A lead fills in your form, the contact is created, a text goes out in seconds, the lead gets assigned, a task appears, and an opportunity lands on your board. One system, no integrations, no webhook glue. That chain in a stack of separate tools is a weekend of work and something breaks quarterly.
Unlimited contacts and unlimited users on every plan. No per-seat pricing, no contact tier that punishes you for growing your list. That is unusual and it matters more than any feature.
Sub-accounts are properly isolated. Each client gets their own workspace, their own number, their own data. On the higher plans you can white label the whole thing and resell it as your own product. For an agency, that changes what the business is.
The phone system is better than it has any right to be. Numbers, call routing, IVR keypress menus, call recording and transcription, missed call automation. Getting that plus a CRM at this price is the strongest part of the platform.
Order bumps and one click upsells are native. No third party checkout, no plugin. If you sell anything digital, that is money most platforms make you bolt on.
What will actually annoy you
This is the section other reviews skip.
The workflow builder is unstable
Not slow. Unstable.
The canvas renders blank on load and needs a reload to come back. Zoom, pan, and fit to screen controls go dead. Sub-controls inside the condition editor stop responding, so you open an If Else to add a second clause, the blank row appears, and the dropdown will not open and the delete icon does nothing. Cancel and Save both freeze. Your only move is to reload and lose the edit.
We have had whole sessions where the fix was bouncing between the Settings tab and the Builder tab to force a clean re-render, and widening the browser window because the right hand action panel was clipped off screen.
On one occasion the entire application degraded, not just the builder. Conversations, the workflow list, every page sat on a loading spinner for forty seconds or more.
Panels drop your clicks and your typing
This one costs the most time because it looks like you made a mistake.
Open an action panel and type into a field. The first keystroke sequence silently does nothing. The panel is still settling. Type again and it lands. So you type, look at it, see an empty field, type again, and now you have doubled text, because the first one actually registered and the screen was just stale.
The fix is a habit, type, look away and back, and if it still looks empty, select all, delete, and retype once.
Dropdowns frequently need two clicks to open. Some modal fields sit behind the footer at normal window height and cannot be reached at all until you make the window taller.
Small things that make no sense until you hit them
- Switching a notification action from SMS to Email wipes your recipient list. You have to rebuild it.
- Task due dates only go down to days. No hours, no minutes. For a speed to lead task that is coarse.
- There is no mark conversation as read automation. You can tag, assign, DND, create records, but you cannot clear an unread. So filtered junk still sits bold in your inbox.
- The number configuration modal closes if you click a tab too quickly, and the click sometimes falls through to the navigation behind it, landing you on a completely different page.
- Actions get deprecated while old ones still appear. You will find yourself using create opportunity while create or update opportunity is being retired, with nothing in the interface telling you which is which.
The logs will tell you something worked when it did not
The one to internalize. A workflow reporting Executed does not mean your message was delivered. It means the step fired.
We have watched a contractor's estimate texts fail silently for weeks with green checkmarks the whole way. The real cause was a negative agency wallet, and the only place it surfaced was hovering a small warning icon on the message itself.
Same pattern with a call, the log said the connect action completed with status Success while the customer had actually been hung up on after a second of hold music.
Verify delivery in Conversations. Never trust execution in the log.
Compliance checks can fail you when you are correct
Registering for A2P texting requires GoHighLevel to scan your website. On a site we verified page by page, widget present with the right ID everywhere it should be, absent where it should not be, no competing forms, no broken links, the scanner failed us anyway. It even reached Passed 1 of 1 mid scan and then flipped to Failed at the end.
The actual cause was on their side, a validator timing out. It took a support escalation and a request for manual human review to clear.
Budget for that. Your registration may need a human, and the bot will hand you a generic checklist first.
So who is it for
Buy it if you are paying for four or more tools that do not talk to each other, missed calls and slow follow up are costing you jobs because the automation layer is where the money is, you run or want to run an agency where sub-accounts and white label change the economics, and you will actually build the automations.
Do not buy it if you want it to work perfectly out of the box, it is a platform, not an appliance, you are unwilling to spend a week learning it, bought and never wired up it costs more than the tools it replaced, you need a polished, reliable interface more than you need capability, that is the honest trade and for some people it is the wrong one, or you only need one thing, a dedicated tool will do that one thing better.
The verdict
GoHighLevel is a genuinely powerful platform with an interface that fights you.
Both halves are true and neither cancels the other. The capability is real, the consolidation saves actual money, and the automations do work once built. Getting them built takes more patience than it should, and you will lose afternoons to a builder that stops responding.
We still run our business on it, and we still put clients on it. The reason is simple, on a contractor account, missed call text back and speed to lead recovered jobs that were previously walking away, and one recovered job pays for a year of the platform. That math survives a lot of frustration with a canvas.
If you go in expecting a rough edit experience and a strong result, you will be happy. If you expect polish, you will be annoyed within a week.
